On Saturday 6 September, the Southport Yacht Club celebrated the opening of its 68th Boating and Sailing Season with the Club’s Annual Sail Past and Blessing of the Fleet Ceremony.

A record number of Club and visiting vessels assembled near the 'Deep Hole' for the official Blessing of the Fleet.

60 vessels took part in the spectacular and colourful parade of sailing and powerboats, with Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate, and many other dignitaries watching from the water’s edge.

The significance of the Annual Sail Past and Blessing of the Fleet is to welcome and the new vessels to the Southport Yacht Club’s 2014/15 boating season and to bless the vessels with good luck before a safe and happy year of sailing and boating.

Father Harry Reuss blessed the waters with Southport Yacht Club Commodore Phil Short, Vice Commodore Sail Kerry Noyes, Vice Commodore Power Graham Webb and Lieutenant Commander Mark Tandy CSC, RAN taking the salute from the Club’s pontoon.

It was Southport Yacht Club’s Commodore Phil Short and Vice Commodore Phil Short’s first time supervising the ceremony in their appointed positions.
