Sailing to Tahiti at Sydney's Cruising Yacht Club of Australia

by Dennis Doyle on 21 Jun 2013
Sailing in Tahiti SW
The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia in Sydney's Rushcutters Bay, is to hold another of their great 'information evenings' on July 2 - this time on sailing to Tahiti - and all are welcome.

After drinks at the bar while you wait, at 6.30pm the discussion will take you on a journey to the islands of Bora Bora, Huahine, Tahaa, Raiatea, Tahiti and to the atolls of the Tuamotus, a very different part of French Polynesia and worth a visit.

Some information from a traditional navigator and why the islands are just so attractive:

French Polynesia located 3,200 nautical miles from Sydney is a watery wonderland of exotic islands and friendly folk. It is 98% water with just a splash of land in the 2.5 million square kilometres and has been a mecca for travelling
yachts and an important stop to reprovision since being discovered by Capt. Wallis in the late 1700’s.

The information night is supported by iSail Yachting, Tahiti Tourism and the Tahiti Pearl Regatta, now in its 11th Year and held annually in May.

About the presenters:
Karine Blanchard: Australian Resident, Born Paris. Project manager and Event co-ordinator with the Tahiti Pearl Regatta for 4 years. 26,000nm ocean sailing experience on 130ft cutter sloop.

Morgan Rogers: Business owner of Network Sports Nutrition, iSail Yachting and WASA Programs. He writes as
freelancer for Sail-World, Afloat, Offshore Yachting and SAILS to assist in promotion of regattas. He has sailed five times in the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race and several Pittwater to Coffs events.

Michele Rogers: Photographer and Cruising Sailor in the 2013 Hobart Rendezvous Cruise

CYCA Cruising will also have in addition a 20-30 minute talk on Cruising Tasmania, a wrap-up on the Hobart RendezvousCruise2013, as well as planning for the next Cruise to Hobart in 2015 and the Wooden Boat Festival
2015.

Dinner may be available at the club after the talk if you are lucky. Last orders are taken at 8.00pm. (Ignore what the website says about closing at 9.00pm). Book your free attendance online today at www.cyca.com.au
