SYC - upgraded to 4.5 Anchors Sandringham Yacht Club
The recent completion of Sandringham Yacht Club’s (SYC) extension to its 356-berth floating marina has coincided with the club being upgraded to a 4.5 Gold Anchor rating.
The Club’s 4.5 Gold Anchor rating, the only one of its kind in Victoria, is issued by the Marina Industries Association (MIA). It provides boat owners and marina users with a quick and easy reference system similar to the hotel association’s star rating scheme.
MIA Executive Officer Colin Bransgrove said, 'Sandringham’s Gold Anchor rating, combined with its numerous awards is recognition of the Club’s position as a leading Australian Club marina.'
Complementing the marina, SYC offers one of the largest boat yards in Victoria. Onsite marine services include a 40 tonne travel lift, two hardstand jib cranes, a two tonne fork lift, 30-boat storage slipway, fuel, launch ramp, 240 space car park, chandlery and service centre, shipwrights, yacht and power boat brokers, mechanics, marine electronics and rigging services.
'The 4.5 Gold Anchor reinforces that SYC offers an outstanding berthing solution on Port Phillip,' the Club’s CEO, Richard Hewett, commented.
'The collective onsite marine services, industry leading tenants and contractors, superb facilities and year round member services, including on water boating programs, provides an impressive package for boat owners,' he said.
SYC offers some of the most affordable berthing on Port Phillip, and with the recent marina extension, the Club has very limited berthing available, including a handful of 10 metre, 14m and 15m pens.
The Club also offers some of the best views of Port Phillip, where members and visitors can take in racing from the most modern of restaurants and bars, featuring a large wrap-around deck. It also houses function rooms, bottle shop and plenty of roomy shower facilities.
Host to Australia’s only Grade 1 Olympic class event, the ISAF World Cup (Sail Melbourne), held each December when the best sailors from around the world descend on SYC, the Club also offers a varied keelboat program, encompassing the Wednesday Wonders; Thursday Twilight series; Saturday Aggregate Series and Sunday Sailors, all sponsored by Mercedes-Benz Brighton.
SYC certainly has reason to celebrate - in the last 12 months it has been awarded the 2013-2014 Australian Club Marina of the Year, the 2013 Victorian Sporting Club of the Year, the 2013 Victorian Metro Club of the Year and furthermore it was also reaccredited as a Level 3 Clean Marina.
The great news is Membership is open - to view the many benefits you receive by becoming an SYC member, go to
