by Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show on 19 May 2014
Aerial - 2013 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show Mark Burgin
Marine technology will be showcased in all its diversity at the 2014 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.

From global brands to emerging inventors, navigation, security and safety to angling, entertainment and onboard comfort, the latest equipment for all facets of the boating lifestyle will be on show at SCIBS.

Raymarine Asia will be making a significant announcement at Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show 2014. In addition to this news, Raymarine will showcase the new 7-inch display version of its award-winning Dragonfly® Sonar/GPS – the Dragonfly7.

Since its launch last year, Dragonfly’s high-performance, dual-channel CHIRP sonar and GPS chartplotter combination has taken the fishing world by storm; bringing the power and crisp detail of advanced CHIRP DownVision™ sonar to inland and coastal anglers at a very affordable price. The new Dragonfly7 steps up the screen-size with a best-in-class 7-inch widescreen display and comes with the added advantage of optional overhead mounting, whilst maintaining tilt-and-swivel capability.

Engineered for high performance and simple operation with automatic sonar optimisation, Dragonfly7 has two dedicated CHIRP sonar channels enabling anglers to enjoy simultaneous views of both fish-targeting sonar and lifelike DownVision imagery using the dual-sonar, split-screen display mode.

Navico will have a range of cutting-edge products from all three of its brands. Lowrance and Simrad Yachting will present the SonarHubTM Sounder. Delivering best-in-class StructureScan HD and CHIRP fishing technologies in one compact module, SonarHub is ideal for marking fish and tracking lure action, and can provide easy-to-understand, picture-like views of structure and bottom detail.

The new performance module brings Single Channel CHIRP to the brands’ HDS Gen2 and HDS Gen Touch units.
Simrad will also be presenting the new NS-Series multifunction navigation system, the Simrad NSS evo2. The perfect combination of integration, design and performance, the NSS evo2 provides the ideal navigation solution, for power cruisers and sportfishing vessels.

From sailing brand, B&G comes the innovative new H5000 instrument and autopilot system, featuring the most powerful race-proven technology and advanced data processing available today.

The new H5000 system integrates exclusive sailing features and all of the critical instrumentation, sensors and sailing data together for fast analysis. At the centre of this powerful system is the H5000 Central Processing Unit (CPU), which has a dual processor capable of running up to 50 times faster than its closest rival.

Also with the B&G badge, the new Zeus2 chartplotter, designed for cruising yachts, cruiser/racers and racing boats. Zeus2 offers enhanced sail navigation features such as SailTime calculations, which display Time To Waypoint, Distance To Waypoint and Estimated Time of Arrival at waypoint using layline calculations.

New on the market and launching at SCIBS is the GME MT600G, an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB). With improved GPS functionality ensuring faster location in an emergency situation, the MT600G features a 10-year battery life and advanced self-testing capability, giving users greater peace of mind.

Designed and manufactured in Australia, the GME MT600G boasts a 66 channel GPS receiver which reduces the search area to less than 100m radius, and a 121.5MHz homing signal to further aid in location and retrieval in an emergency. Complete with quick release mounting bracket and automatically deployed antenna, the MT600G is certified by COSPAS SARSAT for worldwide usage.

Coursemaster Autopilots, the Australian distributor of KVH Satellite TV and Communications systems, will be exhibiting the KVH TracPhone V3-IP, V7-IP and V11-IP maritime VSAT terminals. All three now feature KVH’s single-box integrated CommBox Modem enabling easy installation along with network management tools and multicast reception.

This new integrated CommBox Modem fully combines all the necessary components of a maritime VSAT/network management system into one module – antenna control unit, CommBox™ Ship/Shore Network Manager, ArcLight® spread spectrum modem, VoIP, Ethernet switch, and Wi-Fi - which saves space, is easier to install, and is more reliable and easier to support than competing systems.

The TracPhone V3-IP is the world’s smallest maritime VSAT terminal, featuring an antenna that is only 37cm (14.5 inch) in diameter, with ship-to-shore speeds of 123Kbps and shore-to-ship speeds of 2Mbps. Compact enough for boats as small as 9 metres (30ft), the TracPhone V3-IP helps you stay connected to family, friends or your office. Both the TracPhone V3-IP and the TracPhone V7-IP operate in the Ku-band coverage area of KVH’s mini-VSAT Broadband network, which is among the broadest in the maritime industry.

From Finscan, IntelliCORE FLEX is a new generation, plug and play, out of the box marine digital switching system. On top of the already easy to use menu system, it now provides an installer, everything they need to setup and commission the system, on screen. No Software or PC is required. As the name 'FLEX' suggests, the system has become more flexible, and allows the installer to set the system up for the installation.

The major difference between FinScan’s FLEX system, and other more complex systems on the market is the wide array of features available for the system, and the FinScan system does not require a product specialist engineer with dedicated software to program and setup the system. Tasks such as button labelling, circuit allocation, tank calibration are all accessible via password. All setup is performed from easy to use, intuitive screens, from within the setup area of the touchscreen itself.

Furuno Australia will give the Australian boating public its first opportunity to touch and feel the latest releases from the broad range of quality marine electronic equipment manufacturers they represent including Furuno, FLIR, Maretron, Maxsea, Intellian, WASSP, Airmar and Hatteland.

Demonstrating Furuno’s manufacturing innovativeness the wireless radar utilizes Furuno award winning ultra high definition, 4kW digital radar hardware providing a completely portable radar image via iOS devices without the need for any other network display.

Other Australian releases from Furuno at the show will be the all new colour LCD autopilot, the NavPilot 711C. The new pilot is an addition to the existing 700 series. The 711C pilot design compliments the look of the Furuno NavNet TzTouch range to give your dash a sophisticated feel with performance that is second to none.

Complementary to the award-winning TzTouch Furuno multi-function range is the new MCU002 joystick control unit. The joystick provides a remote option to control your TzTouch multi function system without leaving the comfort of your helm chair or when sea conditions make use of touch screens clumsy.

Another new release is the latest Maretron eight-inch and 13-inch touch screen displays. These high quality, seamless glass LCD displays set the benchmark for boaters to take advantage of the simplicity of NMEA2000 digital switching and vessel monitoring solutions.

For bluewater fishing enthusiasts, the latest generation of transducers, digital and CHIRP fish finders, plus and updates to single and multi beam sonar technology.

Shedding light on the subject, Hella Marine will be introducing two new high powered LED floodlights to the Australian market: the AS 5000, named for its impressive 5,000 lumens of light and the ground breaking new HypaLUME, which generates over 20,000 lumens.

The preferred choice for heavy duty and commercial vessels, these high output LED floodlights carry a five-year LED warranty, offering a 'Fit and Forget' lighting solution.

All Sat Communications will be exhibiting several products, including the world’s smallest PLB, rescueME PLB1.

The rescueME PLB1 provides the reassurance that emergency services can be alerted by the press of a button, and it comes complete with a seven year battery and seven year warranty.

When activated the rescueME PLB1 transmits your position and your ID to a Rescue Coordination Center via satellite link. Rescue services are promptly notified of your emergency and regularly advised of your current location.

RescueME PLB1 works with the only officially recognised worldwide dedicated search and rescue satellite network (operated by Cospas Sarsat). As this is funded by governments there are no charges to use this service.

Weighing just 116gms, this little device is light, compact and simple to use, ideal for sailors or anybody getting out on the water, or exploring the great outdoors.

All Sat Communications is also the Australian distributor of the SPOT® Gen 3 and the Delorme inReach SE products in Australia, which they will also have on display at SCIBS.

Smartboat, a GPS monitoring device will be making its Queensland launch at the Boat Show. Smartboat checks all a boat’s systems while it’s unattended – the bilge, boat’s location, all the vital systems and it has a built-in camera that sends images back every half hour. It is iPhone, iPad and Android compatible.

Smartboat can be configured to provide real-time alerts via email or SMS or to simply log and monitor the information coming from your vessel.

Along with a selection of its superb yachts, Horizon Motor Yachts Australia will be launching the Yacht Controller Joystick JCS. This nifty device allows simultaneous operation of the engines and of the bow and stern thrusters, enabling you to move your boat in any direction securely, precisely and simply, with total ease.

A plug-and-play system, it is convenient to install, without any costly work in the engine room, and does not require cables to be installed along the length of the boat. Yacht Controller JCS is available for all types of electronic controls currently on the market: Volvo EDC, EVC, ZF Mathers, Morse, Teleflex, Twin Disc, Vetus, Bosch Rexroth, MTU Blue Line, Detroit DDEC, CAT, MAN, Glendinning, Cummins and more.

TrackSAT and Smart1Marine offer the marine market the highest quality engineered satellite equipment at affordable prices. Their experts can set you up with a satellite receiver and a VAST box so you can sit back and access your digital television no matter where you are.

Smart1Marine provides GPS tracking solutions for boats or businesses. From technology, to data and easy to use online software, they can monitor and track anything from a jet ski, to a luxury yacht, or a fleet of vehicles. Smart1Marine works closely with Telstra to ensure their tracking devices offer the most comprehensive geographic coverage. There are even small waterproof trackers for the budget conscious. Armed with a pre-paid Sim card, the device texts you if your boat gets moved and you can use Google Maps to locate it through your smartphone.

To keep cabins and other spaces onboard free of moisture, the Ausclimate Compact Dehumidifier, which has had many years of exceptional performance in domestic use, will be launching its marine version at SCIBS. It works by removing excess moisture in closed off areas – ideal for boats of all sizes. The small model can remove 12 Litres of moisture in an area up to 20m². The Taiwan manufacturer has a great track record, having produced eight million of these units in the past 25 years. The distributor is offering free delivery nationwide for all orders at the Boat Show.

My Yacht will be launching Stopgull anti-bird deterrents at SCIBS. Stopgull is designed and manufactured in Spain by Sempre Abril, which specialises in the design, manufacturing and installation of sea gull deterrent and bird proofing systems for boats, yachts, marinas and anywhere birds are a nuisance.

The use of the swivel S/27 StopGull® breaks birds’ landing protocol, forcing the bird to avoid those areas. The S/27 swivel piece is made of a nontoxic dyed polymer which is also UV treated for maximum durability. STOPGULL® effectively deters birds without harming them, as opposed to spikes or electrical shock strips which often cause painful injuries or death.

For onboard entertainment, FUSION has brought together three of its highly popular products to form the aptly named Ultimate Stereo Pack.

The pack offers a massive list of features, including iPhone and iPod connectivity (including Lightening models), along with USB and various Android products, all housed in the waterproof docking station. The MS-BT100 Bluetooth module also allows audio streaming from Bluetooth devices such as laptops and phones. AM/FM stations are written to memory so you won’t have to reprogram them every trip and a VHF receive function is also included in this power packed 4 x 50W stereo pack.

The MS-RA205 stereo is also FUSION Link compatible over NMEA 2000, allowing audio control on partnered MFDs (Multi-Function Displays).
