Today marked the first arrivals of the World ARC fleet to Richard’s Bay, South Africa. After a week at sea, Celebrate who departed La Reunion one day prior to the fleet, moored safely in the Zululand Yacht Club (ZYC). NDS Darwin shortly followed before a busy night of arrivals and few days ahead as the fleet make landfall.
The passage to South Africa has brought some challenging conditions. High winds and big waves caused by the ever changing weather systems on the south east coast of Africa, has put the final mark on what has been a memorable crossing of the Indian Ocean.
'A boisterous sailing night with good winds of 20-25kts and 4-5M waves gave us a rough ride but good progress' – Nexus
'Heavy overcast sky, rain showers all over. Wind on the bow. Cold.' – American Spirit II
The last yachts are expected to arrive at the ZYC on Tuesday, where they then can look forward to a safari to the nearby Game Reserve, detailed presentation on their coastal sail to Cape Town, and an entertaining welcome function before a free cruising period over the Christmas
