After many weeks of preparations, discussions and organizing, our Cruising Masterclass got underway last weekend at the Sydney International Boat Show – headed by our Cruising Editor Nancy Knudsen and with seminars not only from our infamous Nancy but also from Rob Starkey, Adam Brown, John and Lyn Martin, David Chamtaloup to name but a few, and the event was a huge success.
Saturday was a full house with the event staff having to add more seating due to the large numbers of participants. Sunday was just as popular and a sign that this Master Class has a long future ahead.
The speakers were exceptional and the topics were varied, insightful and informative. The generic and non-commercial information and advice was freely given and topics included passage planning, anchoring, electronics, short-handed cruising, cruising information on various locations, cruising with kids and much more.
Seminar content availability:
For those who were present, the PDF's of the seminars will mean something, and many of the participants asked for them to be provided. The information delivery was very dense for much of the time and too fast for note-taking. These PDF's (which may mean little for those who did not attend the seminars), are, or will be, available on the Sydney International Boat Show website, by http://www.sydneyboatshow.com.au/activities/cruising-masterclass/index.html!clicking_here and then clicking on the hyperlinked NAME OF THE SEMINAR, rather than the name of the person delivering the seminar.
At time of writing, for technical reasons, two seminars are missing, that of Adam Brown's
Insurance for Cruising (the pictures are there, but not the text), and Craig Margetts'
Multihulls v Monohulls, Cruising with Kids, Circumnavigating Australia.
These will be added in the next few days so keep checking.
