From the Galley of... SW
Those who have provisioned for voyages will know well how different it is from land-lubbing shopping and cooking... and the secrets of how to do it well are garnered over the years. So what better than a cookery book gathered by members of one of the world's great ocean-going clubs for cruising sailors? The book is out now, a great present for any keen sailor. It is called From the Galley of... by Frances Rennie with support from Alex Blackwell, and includes over 250 well-tried galley recipes.
From the Galley of... is celebrating the 60 years of the existence of the Ocean Cruising Club (OCC). That's the length of time too that the provisioning members of the OCC have been caring for and feeding crew on the world’s oceans. The book is the natural outcome of the Flying Fish series (the organisation's news magazine), by the same name.
The result is a grand collection of recipes shared by OCC members from around the world for all to enjoy.
From the Galley of... includes well over 250 recipes that are regularly prepared on small sailing boats. Whether in distant lands where familiar ingredients are unavailable or in local harbours sharing potluck with fellow cruisers, this is a collection of recipes for cooking meals both underway and at anchor.
Included in the book are such subjects as:
Hints & Tips
Boat Provisioning
Starters, Dips, Sauces
Soups
Breakfast
Lunch and Small Meals
Meat Dishes
Poultry Dishes
Fish Dishes
Pasta and Rice Dishes
Cooked Vegetables / Vegetarian Dishes
Salads
Potatoes
Desserts
Cakes
Bread
More Baked Goodies
Kids’ Corner
Pressure Cooker Recipes
Alcoholic/Non Alcoholic Drinks
They can, of course also all be done in a proper kitchen. Being 'boat recipes' they are by and large simple to cook, tasty, and nutritious.
From the Galley of… is available online in Print and Kindle format through Amazon worldwide, and through OceanCruisingClub.org.
The best news is that the two authors have generously given their time, so all proceeds of the book sales will go to the Club, not the individuals.
