Rallies galore, Capt. Calamity returns, the Winner 9.00, more...

Curious fishing boats - Oyster World Rally  Oyster 56, Dreams Come True
Sailing in company (not competitively) is one of the joys of going cruising, even for the most independent sailor. The advantages are many - good companionship with those who share your passion for sailing, a much wider spare parts inventory, new skills that are acquired or imparted over a sunset drink, and finally - the ability to sail away into that sunset at any time.

So it's no wonder that cruising sailors are found signing up for rallies all over the world – this week we report on three – Mariner Boating's foray along the Turkish coastline, the World Cruising Club's signing up of record numbers to cruise the Baltic and, finally, the Oyster World Rally passing a significant milestone as the fleet sails by the tip of Australia's Cape York.

Kalekoy or Castle Cove With the Fort Overlooking the Bay - Turkey Lycian Coast Rally  Maggie Joyce

The new 'Captain Calamity' in his second yacht to be seized  .. .
There's a whimsical article by Glenn McCarthy about the small dinghies that keep sailing when the rest of the sailing world thinks it's too darned cold, our yacht feature is of the nine metre Winner 9.00, nominated as a European Yacht of the Year in the family cruiser division; and the quirkiest story of the week is of the new Captain Calamity whom the British coastguard have just told to 'Stay home!'

If you are into remote cruising you'll want to keep on file the new electronic cruising guide from Jack and Jude Binder of the Coral Sea, if you want to make your docking easier it may be worth considering our Product of the Week, SlideMoor; and do read how the Monaco Yacht Show is earning some green credentials!

Many more articles too, so read on, enjoy, and...

Sweet sailing!

Sail-World Cruising Round-up,
'Messages in a bottle' have long been associated with sailors who fear their lives may be lost and wish to get a message to the world or to a loved one.
