We've just come back from a visit to a regatta that's been on the cards for a long time – the Boracay Cup. Unfortunately the azure- skies-and-crystal-waters scenario for which Boracay is famous was rather spoiled by the rainy margins of Tropical Depression Crising. On one day, racing had to be cancelled on account of too much wind – how often does that happen in Asia? Boracay may well be the best-kept secret on the Asian regatta circuit – it needs, and deserves, a much bigger fleet. Just imagine the sunshine in the pictures, and read the words...!
Team Australia (Sean Langman and Co) have smashed the Sydney-Hobart course record with an ORMA 60 trimaran. 29hrs 52min 23sec. So quick, in fact, that they fitted it in between Sail-World newsletters! Congratulations to the team for a great effort, and congratulations to fellow photog Andrea Francolini for some great pictures.
Sail-World.com – of course, not just Sail-World Asia – now has a translation function that allows our news stories to be translated into no less than 15 different languages. Tech Editor Jedda Murphy points out that “of course, the automated translation, even with all our best work is still going to be clunky, compared to having a human translation - but as we run some 2,000 stories a month output in even 15 languages would be 30,000 translation hours a month, which is plainly impossible.” Please join us in spreading the sailing word to people whose first language is not English, and forgive the clunky bits.
