Bay of Islands Sailing Week is well underway with the first two days racing concluded, and the final to come on Friday.
The breeze will pick up tomorrow according to Predictwind, and will, stay in from the east for the duration of the three day Auckland Anniversary weekend - according to current predictions.
So the final day of the Bay of Islands Sailing Week, is set for some very memorable sailing, in a great location. Just stunning.

Emirates Team New Zealand is on the final stretch for the launch of their second AC72, which will take place in ten days time and the AC72 will be sailing in a fortnight. They released a video interview with skipper Dean Barker emphasizing that they are at the point where they can see the end of the runway for the 34th America's Cup, and currently have a big worklist to get through. That begs the question as to where the other teams are at - which is generally reckoned to be behind the Kiwis - and certainly so when the sailing days allowed for the first 30 day sailing period are counted.

On Tuesday, the Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) will be making a major announcement at 1030hrs. The smart money is that this is a Volvo Ocean Race stopover announcement for Auckland. If correct this is great news for Auckland and New Zealand, and cements a classic port for the Volvo Ocean Race, with hopefully a longer stopover than the truncated stay between Legs 4 and 5 from the last edition.
Like children waiting for Christmas, we will just have to be patient - and see if a Volvo stopover is in fact the big present under the Christmas Tree.
Either way we will bring you the details as soon as the announcement is made.

The action is shaping up for the second round of the ISAF Sailing World Cup, in Miami. This is really the forerunner to the start of the European circuit later in 2013. In contrast to Melbourne, the numbers in the Windsurfer event (RS:X) have recovered somewhat, and many of the top competitors from the 2012 Olympics will be competing in Miami.
The event will also be the first showing for the new Mixed Multihull, with seven crews sailing the Nacra 17 catamaran. Plus several top crews have switched across to new Womens Olympic Skiff, the 49erFX - including 2008 Gold Medalist, Anna Tunnicliffe (USA).

In the Vendee Globe Race the leaders are expected to finish the singlehanded round the world classic this weekend. But a new twist developed on Tuesday, with the news that third place getter Jean-Pierre Dick, had broken his canting keel and the bulb had dropped off.
Initially Jean-Pierre Dick was expected to withdraw, but so far that decision has not been taken, and he is pushing onto the finish using just water ballast to provide stability, and leeboards to stop (obviously) leeway.

The carbon keel broke 2000nm from the finish and it is a big ask for Dick to be able to make it, however it is very much a matter of taking one day at a time, reeling off the miles as best you can.
