 | | Francois Gabart, MACIF - 2012 Vendee Globe Vincent Curutchet / DPPI / Vendée Globe © | After 36 days at sea, the Vendée Globe fleet has spread out as they negotiate the ice gates in the Indian Ocean; bringing up the rear, Alessandro di Benedetto is reaching the Crozet Gate immediately South of Madagascar while the front runners have their sight on the Eastern Australia gate. Opting for a more southerly route, Gabart and Le Cléac'h are currently running away with the lead and establishing themselves in the Vendée Globe records book in the process. If there was any doubt about the speed potential of the new VPLP-Verdier designs; MACIF and Banque Populaire have certainly performed in outstanding fashion this past week for the two young skippers.

Although there is no snow on the ground yet, we know it's somewhat inevitable... Time to start thinking of winter and spring sailing vacations; Antigua Sailing Week is on the menu this week. What a perfect way to enjoy the Caribbean's fine weather in late April; the 45 year-old event attracts everything from prestigious race yachts to cruisers in bareboat charter, everyone gets to partake in the fun.
Racers in the Pacific Northwest can mark their calendar for the 70th Swiftsure International Yacht Race hosted at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club on May 25th to 27th. With its many course options, the Swiftsure also caters to racers of varying interests.
