The Big Ticket numbers in the news at the moment are the Phuket King's Cup and the Vendee Globe. One requires intense concentration while wearing a t-shirt and shorts, the other demands survival suits and the sort of self-discipline and doggedness that would crumble gneiss (look it up).

Sail-World Asia is in Phuket, and just got handed a t-shirt from the Phuket Cruising Yacht Club - 'Phuket's Premier Antifoul and Intergalactic Affairs Convention Venue'. Guess the survival suit will have to wait.

WMRT Monsoon Cup - Hansen and Robertson fight back

UK's RNLI saves 140,000 lives

Yes that's the number, but when the all-weather lifeboat went out to help the young man, who was kitesurfing not sailing, they didn't realise what a milestone they were passing. The rescue of the kitesurfer by the Fraserburgh crew in Scotland this year marked the 140,000th life saved by the charity since its founding in 1824.... [more]
