2013 ASMEX luminaries, Sydney Superyacht Marina, Steber UAE strategyThis week is all about planning for the future - 2013 at least.
There is a slew of events already on the radar, including ASMEX May 20-22 which has secured an impressive lineup of high calibre industry speakers, equal to any you would have to travel to Monaco or Miami to experience. Among them are John Lu, the charismatic and visionary founder of Horizon Yacht - ninth largest builder in the world - highly acclaimed superyacht designer, Sam Sorgiovanni and NZ Marine executive director, Peter Busfield.

This event, according to Maryanne Edwards of AIMEX/Superyacht Australia, which is organising the third annual ASMEX, is solely created to progress and bolster the marine export and superyacht industries.
I know when I have attended creative, digital, publishing and marketing seminars all over the world, the benefits are enormous and resonate for years. As well as insight and information impossible to otherwise acquire, the renewed zeal and direction for my business have proven well worth the fee.
For ASMEX 2013, delegates can expect to pay around $285 members and $395 non-members for three-days of networking and investment in the future of your business. Check out the lineup so far and you will agree.

Also this week, an exclusive preview of plans to invest $31m in expansion of the Sydney Superyacht Marina. Developers state their aim to create a marine precinct to rival Monaco is a 'much-needed boost for the marine industry and locals, and will be great for tourism, appealing to a whole range of different users'.

There's a timely warning from the Outboard Engine Distributors Association (OEDA) about Aussie and NZ boaties being duped by boats damaged by ex-Hurricane Sandy - in total 65,000 or so boats - plenty of them likely to be snapped up by 'astute' buyers who do their research AND their buying online and may not realise the grey lemons they will end up with.

Plus, a roundup from Steber International, as intrepid Alan Steber invests in relationships in overseas markets such as the UAE, UK and Europe. Whether you're an exporter or not, Alan's approach to cultivating bonds with these markets will galvanise and inspire.
