Only four days until the start of the Vendee Globe. Alex Thomson is hoping to make it all the way round, Sam Davies says she is ‘not afraid of being afraid', and Dominique Wavre claims to ‘never before have been so ready.' I take my hat off to every one of the 20 brave souls who are about to embark on what must be the most terrifying, gut wrenching, challenging, exhausting and – if you just finish, dammit – awesome race of them all. Of course there's a virtual race too (sign on at www.vendeeglobe.org) but I'll be totally satisfied watching the real performers from the relative comfort of my desk...
...or maybe the deck at the Royal Selangor, or Charlie's Place at the Royal Langkawi. That's right, the Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta starts next week.
The USA is about to elect a new President, and so is ISAF. David Kellett is well known to us, and although none of us can vote we'd thought you should see his ‘manifesto'. Kellett is a real hands-on sailor (38 Hobarts, anyone?) who, if elected, can be counted on to not only keep a firm hand on the tiller but is not above mopping out the bilges as well.
There's colourful action from the one of The Most Beautiful Bays in the World – Puerto Galera's All Souls Regatta in the Philippines, and coverage of both Luna Rossa and Artemis getting their AC72s on the water.
If you have a sailing event that deserves some coverage (and sponsors just love plenty of coverage!) please let us know.
