Sydney temp venue, Marine13 regos open, boat shows boat shows and more

News from all over the globe today - from the Monaco Yacht Show, just ended over the weekend, Brisbane's Power, Sail & Paddle - the first of its kind in River City - then the Auckland on water Boat Show, beginning on Thursday.

2012 PSP  Marine Queensland

The inaugural Power, Sail & Paddle, set in the Southern Hemisphere's largest recreational marine precinct – Manly Harbour – attracted more than 4,000 visitors over two days. It was designed to demonstrate how accessible boating and marine recreation can be with a range of hands on interactive displays to give people 'the thrill of being out on the water', according to organisers.

With the assistance of the local Chamber of Commerce and exhibitors, there are preliminary discussions about extending the event and broadening its scope.

Also this week, there are heaps of new products and the evolution of some old favourites, some insight in to the need for a holistic approach to dredging the waterways of the Gold Coast, and a look at the new, temporary but not inferior venue for the Sydney International Boat Show from 2014 to 2016.

Domenic Genua, Marketing & Events Manager for the Boating Industry Association which runs the event said 'It will be fully functional with air conditioning and a complete back of house service. The Glebe Island location is only minutes away by water from what will be our Cockle Bay on-water display, and the voyage can certainly be turned into part a positive and fun boat show experience. There will also be a shuttle bus plan that will complement the ferry service.'

For all the climate changers and skeptics alike, news from one of the world's preeminent scientists that Arctic sea ice is indeed the thinnest it has been for decades. Professor Peter Wadhams of Cambridge University forecasts the Arctic sea ice will totally collapse in the summer months as early as 2016, comparable to adding 20 years of carbon emissions.

Wadhams has spent the past summer using advanced technology to measure the thinning ice and filmed a BBC2 documentary which will show in the UK next month called 'Operation Iceberg', which features a giant ice berg twice the size of Manhattan. That will be one to watch!

From the Marina Industry Association and BIAA, convenors for next year's Marine13 International Conference and Exhibition, the program has been announced and registrations are open! There is a total of 50 plenary, lecture and workshop sessions. Check out the program and how to register online at http://marine13.com/

So, plenty to occupy your reading time this week. More on the way too, so pop by later in the week.

Brilliant boating!
