Telefonica gone and all the latest sailing news

Welcome to this edition of Sail-World.com's UK newsletter.

The big news is that Team Telefonica has broken both rudders falling off a wave, just 300 miles from the Lorient finish line and the skipper has conceded that they now have no chance of winning the race overall.

Speaking from onboard the former Volvo Ocean Race leader, crew member Pepe Ribes said they were hit by a wave and Chinese gybed. The incident cost the Spanish entry dearly and their chances of winning the 2011/12 edition vanished in two minutes. More news as it comes to hand.

Ian Williams (Team GAC Pindar) has retained his number one ISAF Match Race ranking - yet again.

Team15 Inter-Club Championship at Clyde Windsurfing Club

Team15 Inter-Club Championship kicked off at Clyde Windsurfing Club on Saturday. The Loch Insh Monsters took the first Team15 windsurfing event by storm by securing their first win to start off the season. The youngsters competing represented four different clubs. 2200hrs: All boats seem to have successfully completed the gybe to Lorient in about the place and time nominated by Predictwind to optimise their finish time. Also as predicted by Predictwind the winds increased to and average of 40kts at the time of the highly risky manoeuvre, and instant wind speeds in excess of 50kts were reported some boats in the fleet.... J/80 World Championship - The difference a day makes

At the J/80 World Championships, it seems that the few golden hours of sunshine enjoyed by the 76 competing teams on Wednesday were perhaps the last of the championship. America's Cup: Defender's first AC72 wingsail is delivered

The 12-story tall wingsail and hull crossbeams for the first of Oracle Racing's first of two AC72 yachts aimed at the 2013 America's Cup in San Francisco were delivered to the team today. The components arrived in Oakland from New Zealand on the Cap Vilano by shipping partner Hamburg Sud before being delivered to the team's base at Pier 80 on the west side of San Francisco Bay....
