Qld LNP means marine investment, Raymarine Android app, Awards judgesWelcome to another busy week, with news from around the globe. Here at home, Queenslanders who love fishing and boating are looking forward to a 'Can Do' LNP government after new Premier, Campbell Newman's promises to free up some of the prime fishing locations in Moreton Bay and other 'green zones'. There will be investment in infrastructure and dredging on the Gold Coast Broadwater - all our Christmases have come at once!
Last week I met with the team from Riviera, still on cloud nine (is there a cloud 10?) from the recent purchase by Gold Coast business man, Rodney Longhurst. Hear from the man himself his reasons for buying the company and its assets, the appeal of the Riviera brand and where to now.
There is plenty of tech news this week, with launches and innovations being prepared for the upcoming Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show. Among them, from Raymarine - its free wireless screen repeater app for Android OS devices which you can download from Google Play. Thanks to the wireless video streaming capability built into the latest version of Raymarine chart plotters, there is no need to install an expensive external router. Simply download the application, connect your device and you will be able to view charts, sonar, radar, and thermal night vision from anywhere on board, right in the palm of your hand!
AIMEX has announced its panel of judges for this year's Club Marine Australian marine industry awards - and while most are familiar faces, some are new to the process and will bring a fresh perspective.
There's more insight about the value of marinas to communities, not just those who own boats, and some excellent news from the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, the venue for three Laser World Championships this year about its popularity. According to CEO, Paul Hughes, as well as looking forward to $10 million in refurbishments, there are only three weekends that aren't booked out with sailing at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron and they are in demand with events looking to snap them up!
Stay tuned for more from Sanctuary Cove, following the media launch this Thursday, where organisers promise a swag of new intitiatives for exhibitors and visitors that will add up to one of the brightest shows in its 24 years.
