Welcome to Sail-World Canada
Looking forward to Miami OCR!
Quantum Key West 2012, the traditional opening event for the North American racing Season, is wrapping up today; four glorious days of racing (racing was called off on Wednesday because of light winds), ten races and many classes had to wait until today for the final outcome to settle. Congratulations to Rob and Sandy Butler for their win in the new High Performance division; their new McConaghy 38 proved to be well suited to the varied conditions in Florida in a tight division where every boat managed to score a first place this week. Calgary's Ashley Wolfe drove her TP52 Mayhem to a win earlier today to place mid-fleet in a highly competitive 52 class.
Our attention will turn to the east coast of the souther state this weekend as Coconut Grove, Florida plays host to the annual US Sailing Rolex Miami OCR events. A major ISAF event, Miami OCR is the second of seven 2011-12 Sailing World Cup Regattas and will witness competitors from around the world eager to prove themselves ahead of London 2012. Racing starts on Monday and we'll keep a close eye on the Canadian Sailing team throughout the week.
In the Indian Ocean, the Volvo Ocean Race fleet is getting ready to get back on the water again after spending the last few days hitching a safe ride on board a freighter. Start of the second stage of Leg 3 is set for Sunday; their next destination is Sanya, China and the road ahead is full of challenges through the Bay of bengal, Malacca Strait where they will travel through commercial shipping lanes and will have to dodge thousands of small fishing vessels. Forecasts call for winds on the nose!
Sail-World Canada and its companion publications are always interested to share your stories and promote your events; this week, we're sharing some contributors guidelines to help you submit your news articles and personal stories. We provide some pointers about content, style and image presentation. Looking forward to your contributions!
Only two days remain for the Toronto International Boat Show! Come and drop by the Sail Fest Caribbean Village where you can enter Canadian Yachting's contest to win a one week charter for four in the BVIS brought to you by Canadian Yachting, the British Virgin Islands Tourist Board, American Airlines and Sunsail.
All the best!
