Increase event ROI, Ferretti Group sold to China, Team Alinghi auction | | The Weichai Group and Ferretti agreement was signed off last week Ferretti S.p.A | Hope you have been having a great 2012 so far! From feedback at every level in the industry, it appears that things are looking up - stabilising to something like 'the new normal' as Thom Dammrich described it when he was visiting from the US a few years back.
Dealers and retailers and everybody in business are having to get smart about focusing on the message and the means, not the product alone. Consumers are feeling slightly more confident, but the market is awash with competition, within and from beyond boating! So it makes sense then that our industry, in the form of the BIAA (all the BIAs and Marine Qld) is working on a big-picture plan to promote and progress the pleasures of boating. More, of course, right here in MBW once the details are crystallised, voted on and ready for action!
The biggest news this week on the worldwide scene is the deal between the Ferretti Group - the world's largest yacht builder - and Chinese state-owned bulldozer company, Weichai. The deal, should it be approved, will place 75% of the Italian company that holds brands Ferretti, Pershing, Riva, Itama, Bertram, Mochi Craft, CRN and Custom Line) under Chinese control, for a whopping sum of 178 million euros ($228 million). What a statement about the might of China and its vision for the potential of yachting!
Also this week, along with the assortment of new products and innovations, is a special feature on the MD at Walcon, James Walters, thanks to our roving, veteran reporter, Bob Wonders, plenty of good news about the state of Australian Fisheries - countering recent press on the depletion of wild stocks, and a list of 'top reads' from industry stalwart, Boat Books.
There is also news of the Team Alinghi Online Auction, over 150 lots including Meteorological equipment, Boat electronic equipment, Sailing equipment, A/V equipment and much more! Equipment is in Valencia Spain and comes with pedigree and history!
Plenty more ahead, so please visit often.
Keep in touch with your own news and views.Jeni Bone, editor World's largest yacht builder now in Chinese hands Jeni Bone, It's certainly symbolic of the shift in power, and testament to the foresight and might of China, that the Ferrari of the yachting world, Ferretti Group (under which there are eight brands: Ferretti, Pershing, Riva, Itama, Bertram, Mochi Craft, CRN and Custom Line) is now under the control of the state-owned parent of China's biggest bulldozer-maker....
