Ostensibly the fleet is heading to Abu Dhabi, however due to the potential action for pirates operating out of Somalia, the six entries will sail to an unannounced destination, where they will be loaded onto a transporter and will cover the rest of the leg on a ship, before being dropped just short of Abu Dhabi, for a final sprint to the finish. While the solution is not ideal, it is the only practical one as the boats represent an excellent target for pirates who have taken over 1,000 sailors in the past year. Taking people hostage and holding them for ransom is a lucrative business in Somalia and their pirates operate in international waters halfway across to India. Skipper Chris Nicholson and Navigator Andy McLean watch the trailing fleet like hawks onboard Camper with Emirates Team New Zealand during leg 2 of the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12, from Cape Town, South Africa to Abu Dhabi, UAE.   Hamish Hooper/CAMPER/Volvo Ocean Race Now entering their fourth day of the racing the Volvo competitors are moving up the African coast. A crucial stage of the race has been reached as the competitors split, much the same way as we saw in the opening stanzas of Leg 1, with some hugging the African coast, and others heading offshore. In contrast to the first leg, Groupama has gone offshore, followed by Camper, while Abu Dhabi is hugging the African coast. The others are scattered in between. Quite where this finishes up is anyone's guess, and we are running regular updates on www.sail-world.com Team Telefonica, skippered by Iker Martinez from Spain during the V&A Waterfront In-Port Race in Cape Town, South Africa.   Marc Bow/Volvo Ocean Race Leg 1 ended in an anti-climax as Puma was the last into Cape Town, 31 days after starting the leg, had her spare mast dropped in and was ready to go, competing in the Pro-Am Race, the Inport Race and then the leg 2 start itself - seemingly without a problem. She joined Abu Dhabi and Team Sanya, who had also shipped in. Full marks to the shore crews, of all three boats, for their efforts and outcomes achieved under huge time and logistical pressure. The start was an amazing TV spectacle with the Volvo 70s in full charge, on the beautiful blue ocean, with the stunning backdrop of Table Mountain behind.
