Dismasting, the mystery of the Berserk, lots of videos and much more s

Welcome to Sail-World.com's UK newsletter.

Action aplenty this week in the Barcelona World Race as Dee Caffari and Anna Corbella on Gaes Centros Auditivos rounded Cape Horn ahead of rivals Andy Meiklejohn and Wouter Verbraak on Hugo Boss.

Dominque Wavre (SUI) and Michèle Paret's (FRA) Mirabaud was dismasted during a storm and Groupe Bel (Kito de Pavant and Sébastien Audigane) abandoned the race after keel damage.

Ths week we bring you an exclusive interview with Jarle Andhoy - we have the very strange case of the missing Berserk and three of her crew near McMurdo Sound in Antarctica. Its all very odd, what do YOU think about this? We welcome your comments.

Hannah Jenner and Anna-Maria Renken (GER) have secured the charter of the Class40, 40 Degrees, for the double-handed Global Ocean Race 2011-12 which starts in September. The pair will sail 40 Degrees double-handed to the Azores as their GOR qualifying voyage.

The 18ft Skiffs have finished whizzing around Sydney Harbour (Australia) in their World Championship battle and Sail-World.com has videos, news and images from each of the day's racing.

On the subject of video don't miss Richard Gladwell's onboard AC45 video. Or our 'Freo 1987 ' America's Cup videos - a blast from the past.

Of course we have more local and international sailing news from around the globe.

Our hearts go out to the people of Japan as their country faces one of the biggest challenges in many years after the devastating earthquake and subsequent tsunami and now some potentially enormous nuclear issues.

Have a safe week.

JJ Giltinan Championships; Crosbie Lorimer's Images from Race 6
Crosbie Lorimer,
As a young and enthusiastic dinghy sailor in the UK during the 1970s, it was the pictures of Sydney Harbour 18 footers in sailing magazines that first got me interested in Australia as a place to visit. From recollection the rather naive but ultimately prescient thought train of a twelve year old went something along the lines of 'any country that sails boats like that has got to be a great pla...
