Sydney boat show talent, survey says things looking up, Bye Bye Barry
The Sydney International Boat Show is literally around the corner, with the BIA NSW incorporating a host of activities, attractions and appearances to ensure the event appeals to industry and consumers alike. Over the next three weeks, we will profile the many launches, special guests and entertainment that will be on show making SIBS the country's premier boating event.
Adelaide is gearing up for the 2010 show this week, and the call is out for shows around the world, from Newport (Sept 16 - 19) and Fort Lauderdale (Oct 28 - Nov 1) in the US, to the superyacht shows of Cannes and Monaco.
Also this week, news of Yachting NSW's radical restructuring, with an amalgamation of offices with Yachting Australia, as well as a look at the boats up for auction at Ray White Marine's first event, to be held this Sunday at Marina Oceanus, Marina Mirage on Queensland's Gold Coast. It's an industry first, with the involvement of a major Real Estate company and boats have been brought in from around the country for the occasion.
The Internet and particularly facilities like Skype's Voice over Internet and Screen share screen means the marine industry and consumers can buy from anywhere.
This week our Sail-World USA Editor David Schmidt shows us how a Peruvian sailing champion Juan Mauri is busy carving out a world-wide chandlery business from Texas, using all the online tools available. Yes that is more competition for Asia-Pacific chandleries but it shows local business what THEY can be doing on the world stage too.
We have positive news from Melbourne, strong sales and excellent leads, as well as an official report from the British Marine Federation that would indicate that a recovery is underway. The bi-annual survey of BMF members shows that confidence amongst businesses has increased since the last survey was published in November 2009 and turnover is now showing a positive net balance for the first time in 18 months.

No doubt we will all still see Barry around the traps, but his absence will be felt keenly. Thanks to Sanctuary Cove for hosting Barry's swell do last Thursday.
There's plenty of news from around the region, updated daily, so visit regularly.
Have a great week!
