The week to come is the one in which, almost certainly, Zac Sunderland, game 17-year-old from California, will almost certainly become the youngest teen ever to circumnavigate the earth, alone. But watch out Zac, British Mike Perham is almost home too.

A world circumnavigation is something done by about 300 boats a year. But how would YOU like to circumnavigate Australia? So far, it's been done but rarely. Seem like an impossible dream? – Sail-World tells you how, in a newly announced rally.

Read Mark Cherrington's excellent advice on how to make use of an iPhone for some distinct sailing advantages, and read about the role of a stern anchor on a boat. 'Around the Americas', stuck in Nome - and enjoying it Nancy Knudsen, The Around the Americas Expedition, on the 64ft Bruce Roberts steel cutter Ocean Watch, making an attempt to circle both American continents, is stuck in Nome, Alaska. The expedition, whose mission is conducting scientific research as well as building local awareness of global warming, cannot proceed because of 'fast ice', blocking their way.
