Light winds again precluded any racing in Valencia, as the light breeze just never built to the seven knots and steady direction required for racing.
Thus far two days have been lost in a tight racing schedule.
The options have already become very difficult for organisers. However there is still slack left in the schedule – even if another day was lost – and organisers were able to get two races in per day and used the last reserve day.
Our (obvious) pick is that from here on, the racing will go to two races per day, until the series is complete. Organisers will only use the final reserve day as a last resort, as this would allow only a one day gap between the end of Round Robin 1 and the start of Round Robin 2.
However the weather prognosis for Valencia appears to be more of the same, and if there is no racing tomorrow the options become very reduced.
Next step is to go to three races per day – which is not impossible if there was an early breeze. But this makes it very hard on teams who suffer a gear failure particularly in the opening race(s) of the day.
For those used to the match racing circuit, losing a couple of days out of a schedule and then playing catchup is no big deal, but these aren’t supplied match racing boats, and the potential and consequences of gear failure is high.
The only consolation for organisers is that had the LVC been held in Auckland over the last couple of days, they wouldn’t have got any racing away either. Light and shifty has also been the name of the game on the Hauraki Gulf, for the past few days.
With little to report from on the water, Bob Fisher gives us another insight into the shore life in Valencia, we also have images and reports from the Challengers. Sorry no moviestars on the water today!
PS If you get tired of watching replays on TV - buy the Louis Vuitton Acts 1-12 DVD (see story below) and you can see them at your leisure, anytime!

By Bob Fisher,
The Valencia police are clamping down on crime, or making an effort to make its own presence felt. But rather that tackling the muggings and the thefts, the protectors of the law have turned to the team members riding bicycles, and finding them an easy target.... [more]

Another false start for the Louis Vuitton Cup: for the whole afternoon the challengers waited, in vain, for the wind to appear on the race course. Only 3-4 knots, changing in direction, not enough to start any race... [more]

British sailing journalists have been reduced to listing the numbers of 'Brits' involved in the AC regatta races over the last three years, everyone from top players, such as helms Ainslie and Percy, to umpires and gofers.
