Yachties respond to Typhoon crisis in the Philippines

Yachties chip in to help the Philippines recovery SW
Sail-World Cruising has been contacted by some yachties who have responded to the crisis in the Philippines caused by Super Typhoon Haikan/Yolanda, and they are appealing for help from sailors around the world.

One American yachtie, Rod Ward, has taken two month's leave from his job in Dubai to go to the island of Panay and form a privately-sponsored relief effort on that island.

Terry Sargent, a full-time liveaboard cruising sailor on the yacht Valhalla, a 1976 Fuji 32 ketch, is also helping. He is a retired US Army officer - but now a cruising sailor, sailing with crewmate Rosita Palban from Bohol Island in the Philippines.

Focus is on the elderly and children and areas that are out of the mainstream of government relief efforts.

The project is 'Provincial Relief Aid for Yolanda (PRAY)'. Rod put up seed money from his own pocket of $25,000. Other yachties have chipped in with over $7,000 so far.

Details of this effort are on the website http://yachtvalhalla.net/pray/pray.htm, where you can appreciate the good works that they are doing - and even donate if you will.
