The New Zealand Boat Show Hall of Fame has secured a new, highly visible home in the foyer of the ASB Showgrounds.

The New Zealand Boat Show Hall of Fame acknowledges those who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the country’s largest boat show and the marine industry.

Those inducted into the highly-regarded Hall of Fame have their names and the year of their induction engraved in gold on a large impressively framed timber board. Photos and short biographies of the inductees are included in a special display beneath.

Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show general manager Dave Gibbs says he is incredibly pleased to have these Hall of Fame boards on permanent display in such a prominent setting.

'These ‘Hall of Famers’ have done so much to create the world class boat show and the industry we enjoy today,' he says. 'It is fantastic to have their achievements acknowledged in such a high profile area of New Zealand’s premier exhibition centre, the ASB Showgrounds.'

Thanking ASB Showgrounds CEO Mark Frankham for allowing the Hall of Fame to be displayed so prominently, Dave Gibbs says this will mean a great deal to the inductees and their families.

'These wonderful contributors will now have their achievements recognised not just by visitors to the annual Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show but also by all of those who attend other high profile events at the ASB Showgrounds,' he says.

The two organisations have enjoyed a long and fruitful association. The New Zealand Boat Show was first held at the ASB Showgrounds’ venue in 1958, has returned for each of the past 53 years and will be back again from May 17 to May 20 in 2012.

Those currently inducted into the New Zealand Boat Show Hall of Fame are Sandy Sands, Frank Simpson, John Weller, Ken Lusty, Trevor Geldard, Rex Henry, Tony Mason, Roger Arkell, Barry Thompson, Greg Fenwick and Lionel Sands.
