The Global Marina Institute (GMI) has announced the winners of two international scholarships to attend Advanced Marina Management (AMM) courses in Australia and the UK at the ICOMIA World Marinas conference in Turkey.

The recipient of the British Marine Federation (BMF) MarineTek International Scholarship is Alistair Clarke, Marina Manager at Weymouth Marina and part of Dean & Reddyhoff Ltd. He will travel to Australia to participate in the Marina Industries Association (MIA) AMM course in Sydney 14 – 19 September. Following announcement of the Scholarship winner Ilkka Seppälä, CEO, Marinetek Group said 'Marinetek is pleased to assist the development of the marina industry through this Scholarship that supports the transfer of knowledge and best practices across the globe.'

The recipient of the MIA Bellingham International Scholarship is David Osmond, d'Albora Marinas PIER 35 and Victoria Harbour. The award was presented by Bellingham Marine Vice President Phil Greenman. He said 'Bellingham Marine has supported this important initiative for a number of years. Industry education and training is vital to keep the marina industry moving forward.' David will travel to the UK to participate in the AMM course 26 – 31 October on the South Coast of England.

GMI Chairman Mick Bettesworth thanked Marinetek and Bellingham Marine for this specific contribution to global marina industry training. 'GMI is strengthening its global reach.

Countries developing their marina industry increasingly realise the development of marina training needs to run parallel with growth in marina infrastructure, facilities and services.'

The AMM course is acknowledged as the most valuable training course within the recognised career pathway for marina managers. The course is one of the key prerequisites to acquiring marina industry certification.
