The International Melges 32 Class Association (IM32CA) is all set to welcome the 2014 season with change and bounds of class progress. From a new Class President, to the onset of what will be an incredible Miami Winter Series ultimately ramping up for the World Championship on 1-7 December, there is plenty to get excited about as the fleet commences its ninth year of grand prix, high performance racing.
The Melges 32 Class is happy to announce the appointment of Jason Carroll as Melges 32 Class President. Since 2008, Carroll has been a loyal and highly-committed Melges 32 owner. He and his Argo team race regularly in North America, and often on the hyper-driven European Audi Sailing Series circuit making him perfectly well-rounded for the position.
Quantum Key West Race Week is the official season opener starting next week, 20-24 January. It is the first event of the 2014 Winter Series program.
On 28 February thru 2 March, the Miami Winter Regatta (MWR) will serve as the first warm-up to Worlds staged at Miami Beach Marina in Miami, FL. The MWR is the first of three incredible opportunities for teams to pump up the volume and get their teams into Worlds worthy shape. The Miami Spring Challenge happens 4-6 April serving as the final act of the winter series.
Fourteen Melges 32 teams have already committed (to each event) to come and enjoy sunshine, warmth and the impeccable racing conditions associated with Miami. One thing is certain, it will be stellar and if you miss these events, you will miss out big.
The very professional and aspiring Anderson Reggio will take control as PRO for all the Miami regattas. In continued partnership with Coconut Grove Sailing Club's outstanding Race Committee Management and organization, in full coordination with the IM32CA Organizing Authority and Melges USA, these events will set a striking tone for what is to come later in the year at Worlds.
The intense competition will be paired perfectly with great after-racing socials and dock parties. Stylish, pulsating nightlife soirees are in the planning stages so that every event is as spectacular on land, as it is on the water.
Registration is open for the Miami Winter Regatta and the Spring Challenge. Don't waste another minute contemplating whether to race or not - do it now!
To better accommodate traveling teams participating at Worlds, the IM32CA has changed the date and venue for the 2014 Melges 32 Gold Cup. Originally set for 14-16 November, the new event dates are 7-9 November held at Miami Beach
