A Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15 atrai não só fãs da vela oceânica, mas também celebridades esportivas em suas paradas pelo mundo. No Brasil, no mês de abril, os campeões mundiais Cafu e Márcio Santos visitaram a Vila da Regata de Itajaí (SC). Nesta segunda-feira (1º), o jogador português Luís Figo foi até a stopover de Lisboa para promover sua fundação social, que tem o objetivo levar o esporte para as crianças. O melhor jogador de futebol do mundo de 2001, convidado pelo Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing, também é um seguidor da Volvo Ocean Race. 'É um evento global e conhecido no mundo todo. Eu acompanho a Volta ao Mundo por meio das notícias e dos jornais! Sei que o Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing está fazendo um grande trabalho. Tive a chance de conhecê-los em 2012, aqui na parada de Lisboa, quando eu saltei do barco. Espero que eles continuem assim e sejam bem sucedidos no final'.

O Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing lidera o evento com cinco pontos de vantagem para o chinês Dongfeng Race Team. Faltam ainda duas etapas para o fim do campeonato. No próximo domingo (7), os barcos partem para Lorient, na França.

Luís Figo levou muitas crianças de diferentes projetos para um passeio na Vila da Regata de Lisboa e foi assediado por elas. Segundo o craque, que brilhou com as camisas de Sporting, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Internazionale e seleção portuguesa, o dia foi inesquecível para os pequenos. 'As crianças puderam acompanhar diferentes atividades relacionadas ao mar na visita. Foi um grande prazer para nós participar deste evento global. Uma das áreas em que trabalhamos na fundação é a integração social, por isso estou contente por ter esta oportunidade'.
