Countdown begins for the American Windsurfing Tour

American Windsurfing Tour - 30 July, 2016 Joey Sanchez
At a remote point break on the Pacific coast of Baja, windsurfers from around the world are gathering for the annual Mexican wave-riding contest on the American Windsurfing Tour.

Punta San Carlos is set in a pristine desert wilderness, 275 miles South of the US border and 2 hours from the nearest tarmac.

Riders are setting up camp on the point, a home for the week with a view of the waves, sheltering from the wind behind trucks and board bags. Others are enjoying the deluxe hospitality at the Solosports Camp, who are once again hosting this event.

Pro sailors will be competing for a share of the $6,000 prize money. The contest opens tomorrow with a solid SSW swell forecast for the week ahead. There is still time to get down here.

Stay tuned for daily updates from the Punta...
