Coastguard Boating Education will again be running its popular Powerboat Handling Challenge for all
those attending the Auckland International Boat Show this year.

The Challenge consists of negotiating a tight floating course at a low speed aboard a MAC 420 training boat – under the watchful eye of a professional RYA Powerboat Instructor.

Our aim is to showcase the benefi ts of RYA practical boating courses. No matter what your level of experience everybody is encouraged to get out on the water and have some fun – and learn a thing
or two. With guidance from our qualifi ed instructors even a complete beginner will achieve manoeuvring through the course.

Qualified pwc/jetski instructors will be demonstrating correct handling techniques plus safe righting and boarding procedures on a pwc with demos taking place daily at 1pm on the Marina at the end of the Gateway Plaza stairs.

There’s plenty of fun to be had here with emergency distress demonstrations every day at 1:30pm.

CBES will exhibit a range of emergency distress signals in addition to showing you how to launch, capsize and right a life raft.

If the action is too much for you to handle, you can visit the CBES on-water stand and have a go at our
online ‘Edu-games’ including the Powerboat Fishing Challenge. This highly interactive online education
game is primarily aimed at engaging small trailer powerboat users through their interest in fishing.

It uses competition and collaboration between players to encourage networking while helping them to become safe, knowledgeable, and confi dent boaters. The team will be on hand to talk to you about all things nautical, including courses, call signs and possibly a bit of rugby as well!

Visit the CBES site situated on the Marina at the end of the Gateway Plaza stairs and have a go at the International Boat Show from Thursday 15 – 18 September. Don’t miss out!
