Durban 2010 and Beyond has won the fourth race of the Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race from Durban, South Africa to Fremantle, Western Australia.

The South African team crossed the finish line at the mouth of Fremantle’s Swan River at 19:32 local time (10:32 UTC), sealing their victory in the race across the infamous Southern Ocean.

The win into Western Australia for Durban 2010 and Beyond is the second victory of the Clipper 07-08 Race and awards them the maximum ten points bringing their race total to 27 points and provisionally putting them back at the top of the leaderboard.

westernaustralia2011.com achieved a well earned second place into their home port of Fremantle. Their tactics of staying south paid off as the team from WA crossed the finish line at 22:02 local (13:02 GMT) just 2 hours and 30 minutes behind race winners Durban 2010 and Beyond.

This is the first podium position for westernaustralia2011.com and earns them a valuable 9 points, provisionally bringing their overall total to 20 points, just 7 points behind the South African race leaders.

Based on the rest of the fleet’s positions as Durban 2010 and Beyond crossed the finish line the biggest threat to their overall lead is Glasgow: Scotland with style Clipper who was lying in fifth place as the South African team finished.

The next boats expected to arrive are Qingdao and Hull & Humber who are currently battling it out for the final podium position. With Hull & Humber’s redress of 50 minutes the pressure will be on Qingdao to get a comfortable lead on the team from the UK. Their estimated arrival time is around 03:00 local Sunday 16 December (18:00 GMT Saturday 15 December).
