The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race fleet remain in Shelter Bay Marina, with the Race 11 start to New York now expected to be on Monday evening (GMT).
The departure from Panama has been delayed due to an overdue engineering part which has been held up in transit and was not delivered yesterday, as expected. A Clipper Race employee is therefore now en route to Panama to deliver the part, to ensure the fleet can leave on time in accordance to the original race schedule.
Race Director Joff Bailey explains, 'It is very unfortunate that a major shipping supplier has let us down, as we ordered this part in good time. We therefore have to take matters in our own hands, flying over a Clipper Race staff member with the important engineering part.
'As we don’t want to split the fleet, we have delayed the departure for all of the teams from Shelter Bay Marina. We now expect the fleet to depart from there late Sunday evening local time (early hours of Monday GMT).'
Over the past week the fleet has made the 51 mile transit of the Panama Canal. Once they leave the marina they make their way 60 miles off shore for a Le Mans start in Race 11 to New York.
The Race Viewer will activate once the fleet leaves Shelter Bay and our Daily Updates will be sent again, once the fleet is at sea.
A further update will be posted when more information is available.
