The International Offshore Team Association (IOTA), the organiser and commercial rights holder of the Class 1 World Powerboat Championship is hopeful that the current issues facing the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) and the UAE Federation can be resolved.

With reference to the meeting held yesterday in Dubai between the representatives of the UAE Federation, Class 1 has noted the decision taken, which was to give the UIM until 15th January 2009 to clarify the question of the appointment of the Promoter of the F2000 Championship.

'As the Promoter of Class 1, of which Dubai and the DIMC have been a pivotal part since the inception of this Championship, IOTA hopes that this situation of crisis between the international governing body of power boating and one of its most influential and active National Authorities, the UAE, can be resolved soon and – even if this matter is not directly connected to Class 1 – we will do everything in our power to enable this to take place,' said IOTA president, HE Sheikh Hassan Bin Jabor Al-Thani, adding, 'We hope, therefore, that the matter will be resolved by the date indicated, in order that – as has been the case for the last 17 years – Dubai can be the closing event of the 2009 Class 1 World Powerboat Championship.'
