Capital Insurance Brokers ACT Sprint Titles Set for next weekend.

The 26th and 27th October will feature the annual Capital Finance Brokers ACT Sprint Series run by the Canberra Yacht Club. There will be divisions for the Laser, Radial, 4.7 and Optimist Open, Silver and introductory Green, as well as a number of open Divisions with classes ranging from Mirrors to B14’s.

An unprecedented number of Optimist dinghies will set sail on Canberra’s idyllic Lake Burly Griffin for the two day regatta.

With a back drop of the Australian National Museum, National Gallery and Science and Technology Centre The lunch start times, enables the sailors and families to enjoy the Nation’s Capital many attractions.

A unique attraction for the Opti fans, is the stadium like surrounds that enable parents, siblings and other supporters the opportunity to view the racing from the shores edges. Coupled with the CYC’s magnificent lawn rigging area and ease of launching facilities, it has become a regular and well supported Travellers Trophy Heat for the NSWIODA.

This year Barracouta Sails will be providing three randomly drawn prize of a new sail to the Open, Silver and Green fleets.

The Opti has seen a terrific growth in the ACT with eight new owners boosting the local fleet to 22 boats. With Daryl Roos, the current 505 National Champion crew as coach, the locals continue to improve and are looking forward to another Matthew Owen the Canberra Yacht Club CEO attributes the strong Opti growth to the Tackers program which saw the CYC become the biggest trainer of the 7 to 12 year olds age group.
