One of three Canadians picked up by a giant container ship at sea after a storm damaged and then sunk their Hawaii-bound sailboat is calling their dramatic rescue a 'gauntlet of happiness. Brad James, 32, told CBC News on Thursday morning after the rescue that he felt great, despite the dramatic chain of events that left him and his nine-year-old son, West, floating in the dark sea for 2½ hours.

Clipper Round the World Yacht Race – 'Well our sail wardrobe has been getting thoroughly aired over the last 12 hours,' Singapore skipper Ben Bowley says in his 0600 report to the Race Office. Similar to the rest of the ten-strong ocean racing yachts taking part in the race, the last 24 hours has been testing for the crew, as they deal with the upwind sailing conditions.

Buckley Systems (Ross and Campbell Field) pulled out of the Global Ocean Race, about a week ago after a sequence of crash tacks and gybes while sailing in heavy seas. They are due to arrive back in Auckland at 0900hrs tomorrow, Friday 10 February.
Ross Fields is off the boat already, in Tauranga, to see a medical specialist.

Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12 - So far this race none of the teams have been able to better Ericsson 4’s world record 24-hour speed record, set during the 2008-09 Volvo Ocean Race when they recorded 596.6 nm. A trophy is awarded at the end of each leg to the team recording the greatest distance over a 24-hour period by the Volvo Ocean Race’s Official Timekeeper IWC Schaffhausen.
