Women’s Keelboat Championship overall

by Sail Canada on 20 Aug 2014
Womens Champs with spin - Women’s Keelboat Championship 2014 Sail Canada / Voile Canada http://www.sailing.ca/
The Women’s Keelboat Championship took place over the weekend at Point Claire Yacht Club in Quebec. A total of 11 boats and 36 participants took part, getting nine races in over three days.

Event coach Toby Bryant was on site for practice and racing days giving competitors tips and tricks! Toby is one of the top Shark sailors in Quebec, with experience sailing in Fireball, J24, J30, 2.4m fleets.

Day one of racing kicked off with light breeze, grey skies and cool temperatures. Leading the day after three races was Jinnie Gordon and crew on Red Dwarf. Day two brought more wind, with gusts in the mid-teens, allowing for another three races.

The third and final day of racing brought bigger breeze and sunny skies for the final three races of the event.
In the end the top three boats were separated by only six points, with Jinnie Gordon and Red Dwarf taking the title. Marion Lemarchand finished second on Chimere and Melodie Gummer on Cariad finished third (see full crews below).
Overall it was another great Women’s event, thanks to Pointe Claire Yacht Club for hosting, all the officials and volunteers for their time and dedication.
