Sailors interested in taking part in the 2014 Sail for Gold Regatta now have up until Sunday 11 May to enjoy the discounted entry period. The event is due to be held at the world class Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy in just under four weeks’ time.

The Sail for Gold Regatta, the third stage of the EUROSAF Champions Sailing Cup, gets underway from 2–6 June on the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic waters and is the only international multi-class Olympic and Paralympic event staged in the UK.

In 2013, the first year in which the series for Olympic and Paralympic Classes was held, over 1,500 boats competed in the series, representing more than 50 different countries. The EUROSAF Champions Sailing Cup extends the European summer season for aspiring Olympic and Paralympic Classes sailors beyond the ISAF Sailing World Cup regattas in Palma and Hyères, and provides a highly competitive series of well-organised and well-managed regattas in the build up to the Rio 2016 Games.

This week sees the series kick off with the Garda Trentino Olympic Week, Italy (7-11 May) which is then followed by the Delta Lloyd Regatta, Netherlands (20 - 24 May), the Sail for Gold Regatta (2 - 6 June) before heading to Kiel Week, Germany, for the final leg (21-25 June).

Pete Allam, Sail for Gold Event Director, commented: 'With a number of Olympic and Paralympic medallists from the London 2012 Olympic Games already entered for this flagship event, sailors can look forward to a competitive week of racing.

'The venue will be free of charge for training for all competitors from Wednesday 28 May giving sailors the opportunity to utilise the facilities and world class waters which Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbour have to offer in the build up to the regatta.'

Sailors can take advantage of the extended ‘early entry fee’ discount which is available to those who submit their online entries before 23:59 (BST) on Sunday 11 May. Entries can be made via the event website.

All other entries must be received no later than Friday 23 May 2014.
