by Sail Canada on 23 Nov 2016
Pat Wilson and Arie Moffat - 2015 Youth Sailing World Championships World Sailing
In preparation for the 2016 Youth World Championships, top Canadian 420 team, Pat Wilson and Arie Moffat sailed to a third place finish at the I420 Atlantic Coast Championships at the Indian Harbor Yacht Club in Greenwich, CT.

The duo joined forces in 2014, training out of Kingston Yacht Club and Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron. RNSYS coach and Team Leader Agustin Ferrario attributes their strong work ethic to their recent success. “Arie and Pat have been working hard for the last two years and all that good work is paying off. They've been supported with good coaching and strong training partners who push them hard. The conditions were quite extreme at this event and there were medalists in attendance from the previous world championships.”

Pat and Arie will be training in Miami this week as their final on water session ahead of the Youth World Championships in Auckland New Zealand next month. They finished 15th at the 2015 Youth World Championships and were awarded the Sail Canada Bill Burk Memorial Youth Elite Award.

Other noteworthy news of the month includes Canadian/New Zealander Sharon Ferris-Choat skippering the first all-female Extreme Sailing Series team from Oct 6-9th in Lisbon. The Canadian flagged catamaran was crewed by six world-class female sailors. Thalassa Magenta Racing in partnership with The Magenta Project aims to give female sailors opportunities and pathways to compete at the highest performance levels of the sport. The teams’ entry into the Lisbon Act is part of a long-term ambition to create an all-female crew capable of being competitive in the Extreme Sailing Series.

Congratulations to Sail Canada Sailors of the Month- Pat Wilson and Arie Moffat and best of luck at the Sailing World Championships in December!
