With a monster swell forecast for the ninth day of the NoveNove Maui Aloha Classic both the men’s and women’s fleets were released yesterday evening, which proved to be the correct decision with Ho’okipa completely closing out.
However, with such a big swell looming Pe’ahi, Jaws, sprung into action life and Kai Lenny (Naish / Naish Sails / MFC) — currently fourth in the double elimination with the opportunity to move on to the podium if he can defeat fellow local Levi Siver (Quatro / Goya Windsurfing / MFC) — showed again that he is the all-round waterman as he tow-surfed Jaws.
The forecast for tomorrow is for very light northeasterly winds and realistically the opportunity to resume the double eliminations tomorrow looks fairly slim. However, as always you never know and the skippers’ meeting will take place at 10am tomorrow morning.
