Newport to Ensenada Yacht Race – Members of the Newport Ocean Racing Association, hosts of the 68th annual race, announced today week the schedule for its race-related activities. The time-honored series of events, held within a week of the April 24 start off the Balboa Pier, has secured N2E not only as a race, but an epic event for the sailing community and residents at large.

Race week formally kicks off Sunday, April 19 with the second Annual Balboa Village Fest at the Balboa Fun Zone, from 11a.m. to 4p.m. Watch noted chalk artists, see the Sea Scouts knot-tying demonstration, take in the city’s Taste of Balboa or visit the Nautical Museum that always hosts hands-on activities for children.

Race boats docked nearby will be open for viewing or guests can just relax in the Stella Artois beer garden. Not to be missed is the annual race painting unveiling by NOSA officers with local dignitaries. Food and beverage tickets range from $2 - $10. All else is free.

The annual Skippers Luncheon, hosted by and at the historical Newport Harbor Yacht Club, will be Wednesday, April 22. At noon, sailmakers and racing gurus from Ullman Sails will offer last minute tips about winning the race and taking care of sails after a breezy run. RSVP`s a must. Cost is $15.

Sterling BMW is the sponsor of the Boat Owners VIP Reception, Wednesday, April 22 at 6p.m. The beautiful Balboa Bay Resort hosts this event, exclusively for city officials, sponsors and boat owners.

Back with a splash this year is the reinvigorated Sail Away party for skippers, crew and invited guests at the venerable American Legion Yacht Club. Be there Thursday, April 23 from 6 – 10 p.m. for hearty food, libations and entertainment. No cover. Vessel Assist and Sea Base boats will shuttle participating sailors to and from their boats or BYC.

Racing starts off the Balboa Pier, Friday, April 24 from 11a.m. to 12p.m. If sailing enthusiasts can’t get on the water, catch the spectacular sight of 200 sailboats vying for a good start position from the beach or the pier.

A complete list of events with sign up information if necessary is posted at website

For race participants, there is also a schedule of activities planned in Ensenada. From enjoying a free cold beer on the docks of the Hotel Coral & Marina to celebrating with the Tecate girls at the Mexicana Festival Saturday evening, to the official awards ceremony Sunday, April 26 at 2p.m., there is something for everyone.

Don’t miss out!
