La Transat AG2R La Mondiale. Ils ont beau étudier les fichiers météo, surveiller les classements et contrôler leurs adversaires, les équipages naviguent dans le flou. 'Il faut prendre la course avec philosophie,' expliquait à la vacation de 5 h ce matin Paul Meilhat (Safran-Guy Cotten). Le système dépressionnaire installé sur les Canaries barre la route avec des vents mous et très variables. On peut déjà parier sur un regroupement dès le passage de Madère.

Les 14 équipages ont ce matin dépassé la latitude de Gibraltar et la plupart d'entre eux a empanné cette nuit pour faire cap vers le point de passage obligatoire de La Palma. De 70 milles d'écart en latéral hier soir, la flotte se resserre : entre Bretagne – Crédit Mutuel Performance le plus à l'Ouest et 30 Corsaires, le plus à l'Est, il y a désormais 50 milles. Nicolas Lunven et Eric Péron (Generali) mènent la danse au premier classement du jour. Le résultat d'un joli travail d'empannages pour contourner au mieux la bulle sans vent : 'On essaye de contourner une dépression stationnaire située entre nous et le sud de Gibraltar. Nous faisons le tour par l'Ouest, on a empanné plusieurs fois pour essayer de faire la route la plus courte.'

D'une folle chevauchée à plus de 200 milles avalés quotidiennement, la course passe aujourd'hui au mode ralenti. Alors qu'elle se situe à 140 milles de Madère, la flotte navigue dans moins de 15 nœuds de vent. Un vent qui va continuer à mollir, voire s'essouffler à Madère. Gare aux dévents de l'île montagneuse (3000 m d'altitude !). Il va falloir la contourner très au large. Les choix tactiques vont alors être déterminants pour ensuite approcher les Canaries tout en gardant en tête la suite du parcours et la meilleure façon d'accrocher les alizés. Un week-end studieux et éprouvant pour les nerfs en perspective!
