It has been a fantastic experience for the Canadians at the 2013 ISAF Youth Worlds in Cyprus, as it has come to an end.
With great organization, solid winds and tight racing among the best youth sailors in the world, this event was worth every minute of it.
All members in the team had a lot of fun, started new friendships and sailed really hard leaving heart and soul on the race course. Race results clearly don't show us where we would like to be, but probes that our sailors are on the right path to become international caliber sailors in the senior leagues. This experience was really useful to test canadian youth sailors against other nations, recognizing we have strengths as well as weaknesses we need to work on. As an example, canadians were among the fast sailors but struggled with the tight congested starts of an international fleet.
Make no mistake as this will be not be the last time you will follow these ten canadian sailors at world championships, as they leave the event quite hungry for future performances and will work really hard for it.
Big thanks to the coaches who joined me leading this team, Rosie Chapman and Lisa Ross for their endless hours of great coaching. Also special thanks on behalf of the whole canadian team to Chris Cook, Colin Guthrie, Colleen Coderre and the Sail Canada staff for believing in this team with their dedicated support.
We wish fair winds to these talented sailors.
Canadian Team Leader- Agustin Ferarrio
