ISAF Sailing World Championships - Final Gold fleet battle for Douglas

2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships - Santander delivered big breeze, big shifts and range in velocity for Day eight of the ISAF World Championships. The RSX medal races were held live in the morning with Julien Bontemps (FRA) and Charline Picon (FRA) capturing the crown titles.

The Finn gold fleet sailed under the cliffs on Langre course which resulted in both sides paying dividends in the big breeze. Giles Scott (GBR) continues his streak of success putting up the best performances of the day and stretching out his lead even further going into the final two days of racing.

Canadian Greg Douglas was the comeback kid on the course today recovering from mid-30 mark roundings however the results do not reflect his position of preference. Douglas will hyperextend his efforts during tomorrow’s racing with an outside shot at securing country qualification and placing potential of 12th overall.

In Silver fleet action, Martin Robitaille won the final race of the day on the Finn course while Luke Ramsay and Nikola Girke scored a bullet on the Nacra 17 course.

The light air forecasted for the weekend will inevitably challenge sailors and committees alike. The 470 fleets take on the medal race tomorrow while the 49erfx, 49er, Nacra and Finn classes have another day of finals before medal racing on Sunday.
