Bobbly breeze on Day 4 - 2015 Miami World Cup

by Sail Canada on 31 Jan 2015 Miami delivers another day of bobbly breeze in the mid-low teens that shook up the rankings on the fourth day of racing at ISAF World Cup Miami.

Canadian Allan Leibel moved into podium position despite suffering an OCS (on course side of starting line) today. Norway’s Bjørnar Erikstad and Megan Pascoe (GBR) sit in Leibel’s way with the final showdown set to take place tomorrow at 1100 local time.

CAN 835 (Tingley/Lutes/Campbell) slip nicely into third place in the Sonar leaderboard behind USA & Norway. With a 6 point gap between first and fourth, the final two races tomorrow will be crucial in deciding who takes home a medal.

CAN58 had another troubling day on SKUD course, breaking their main halyard and skipper John McRoberts getting injured by the boom forcing their retirement on the final race of the day.

On the silver 49er course, CAN 905, Dave Mori and Justin Barnes sailed two top 5 finishes against a competitive skiff fleet.

Nacra team Luke & Nikola slip a little further away from medal race contention, making the slightest of errors on the fickle machine can drastically change one’s position on the finish line. Luke and Nik are currently in 17th and share further on their day.

Isabella Bertold capitalized on race starts today, settling in with the lead group and scoring a solid 6, 14 on the Radial course. Brenda Bowskill had one of her more challenging days not able to recover from behind but still remains motivated. 'However frustrating today was, it was not an indicator of tomorrow,' reflects Bowskill. The goal is to 'reset' and let the training take over; get back to basics.'

ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami starts to wend down tomorrow with the final day of racing for the Paralympic classes and for the many Olympic class sailors who will not make the top 10 medal race cut for Saturday.
