August CORK events commence tomorrow

CORK International Optimist Regatta CORK
Tomorrow marks the first day of racing for the CORK International Optimist Regatta, continuing until Sunday, August 10th. The Optimist is a single-handed dinghy suitable for sailors up to 15 years of age. Many of the best sailors in the world started sailing in these boats. Over 80 sailors will compete in the Red (13-15 years old), Blue (11 to 12 years old) and White (10 years of age and younger) fleets, with 15 sailors in the Green fleet.
Following CORK International Optimist Regatta is the Sail Canada Youth Championships at CORK International, August 10th – 14th. This event will be provide fierce competition as it is a qualifying event for the 2015 Canadian Youth Sailing Team, and part of the qualification process for the 2015 Youth World Team. Sailors 18 years of age and under will compete in the Laser (male), Laser Radial (male and female), Laser 4.7 (open), 29er (open) and Club 420 (Open) classes.
Lastly, the August events wrap up with CORK Olympic Classes Regatta (OCR), August 15th – 20th. This event will be the Sail Canada Senior National Championship, a North American Grand Prix event for Laser Standard and Laser Radial (open), an ISAF 100 point event for the Laser Standard and Laser Radial (female), an ISAF 50 point event for the Finn class, the Albacore North American Championship, the F18 Canadian Championship, the Viper 640 Canadian and Great Lakes Championship, KONA North American Championship and the I14 Canadian Championship. For the windsurfer classes Bic 293 and RS:X, this event will be the Youth National Championship.
