2015 Laser Radial Youth Worlds – Serious action expected

2015 Laser Radial Youth Worlds – As we enter the fifth day of the regatta, the prospect of strong winds beckons for the first time so the hiking straps will see some serious action today.

Meanwhile day three had a mix of good and bad results for the Kiwis, the leading NZ sailor being Tim Adair of Murrays Bay carding third and second placings in the two races of the day to pull him into 10th place overall, along with James Jennings who also achieved a handy third place in race five.

We can report that the black flag is certainly not a contender as the new New Zealand flag as it unfortunately raised its ugly head on George Gautrey’s scorecard today in race six pulling him down the leaderboard.

Day four was a long drawn out drifter with too little consistent wind to race for several hours. Once race seven did get underway it was a mixed bag of results for all the fleets which proved too costly for two of the Kiwi boys for their Gold fleet chances. Race eight was attempted for the three boys fleets only to be abandoned for the day before the girls fleet could get started.

The conclusion of the qualifying round sees three of the five Kiwi boys making the cut for Gold fleet – Tim Adair (18th), Alastair Gifford (33rd), and George Gautrey (44th). James Jennings (68th) and Blake Woodfield (79th) compete in the Silver fleet. In the Girls fleet, the NZ placings after race seven are: Ali Nightgale (32nd), Olivia Christie (39th) and Megan Thomson (45th).
