2014 Volunteer of the Year - Warren Nethercote, an Ottawa native and member at both St. Margaret's Sailing Club and Bedford Basin Yacht Club has served sailing in almost every volunteer capacity. Whether through governance, as an official, moving marks on a course or even running a bar, Warren has taken a shot at it all. Warren left Canada at a young age to study Naval Architecture in the UK, returning to join Defense R&D Canada in Halifax.

He took up sailing in dinghies and then moved to PHRF and one-design boats. During the winter months Warren is a dedicated DN Sailor and a Soling Sailor during the summer months. Warren currently serves as the President of the Nova Ice Yacht Club and since November 2014 has been Canadian Rear commodore of the international DN Ice Yacht Racing Association.

In 2012 Warren was the recipient of the Rioch Sports Official of the Year from Sports Nova Scotia, an honor awarded to the top official considered from all sports under the Sport Nova Scotia umbrella.

Frank Denis, Director of Sail Nova Scotia notes that 'Warren has given a significant amount of 'high quality' time to the sport over many years. Time that has not only helped us run national and International events, but time that has played a very important role in the development of our young sailors.'

Warren Nethercote, the 2014 Sail Canada Volunteer of the Year - Presented by Volvo Cars of Canada, will be in attendance along with his wife Maria Kuttner to accept his award at the Sail Canada Rolex Sailor of the Year Awards at the Carlu Toronto, on February 6th 2015.
