2014 Cork Fall Regatta and Laser Class District Championship CORK
2014 Cork Fall Regatta and Laser Class District Championship - Today began with minimal breeze from the North. After a short on-shore postponement, all fleets were launching and heading to the course at 1130. The wind filled in to six - nine Knots from the South-West.

The Laser fleet began the day with Robert Davis winning the Pin, and although he was flagged on his first downwind it did not affect his lead and he continued on to win the race. Race two was lead and won by Evert McLaughin, with Davis finishing second and Matt Ryder finishing third.

The final race of the day started with Davis in the lead, until half way up the first upwind leg when a shift came through and pushed him to fifth. Ryder was able to gain on the shift and move to the lead. The last downwind was a battle between Ryder and Davis, with Davis coming out on top. The day concluded overall with Davis in first, McLaughin in second and Ryder in third.

The Radial Fleet began race one with Violet Stafford winning the start, and leading the fleet off the line with Alexsander Magi close behind. Magi passed Stafford and continued on to win the first race. Race two was won, with a big lead, by Canadian Youth Champion Matti Muru.

Magi was behind finishing in second and Justin Vittecoq in third. The third and final race of the day was a battle between Magi and Vittecoq. Magi was able to beat Vittecoq, and place first. The day concluded with Magi in first overall, Vittecoq in second and Stafford in third.

The Optimists fleet has a strong fleet of 40 competitors. The first race was won by Tate Howell, followed by Aj Boucher in second and Nicholas O’Brien in third. In Race two Howell fell to second place with Thomas Harries passing Howell on the second upwind to take first. Following Harries and Howell was Ian Doell in third. Harries continued on to win the last race of the day followed by Doell. The Optimist fleet finishes day one with Harries in first, Doell in second and O’Brien in third.

420’s began the day with Snyder and Porter finishing first in Race one, Montagnese and Doran-Des Brisay in second and Corcoran and Bey in third. Race two was won by Canadian Youth Champions Wilson and Moffat, they had a clear start at the pin, and rounded the windward in fourth. They then gained their lead on the downwind and continued on to win the race followed by Lewin-Lafrance and Sears and Vecsi and Mathiesen.

The third and final race of the day was won by Corcoran and Bey, followed by in second by Lewin-Lafrance and Sears and Wilson and Moffat in third. Overall results for Day one of Fall Cork are Wilson and Moffat in first, Lewin-Lafrance and Sears in second and Corcoran and Bey in third.

The first race in the 29er fleet was won by Vagners and Sheedy, followed in second by Corbeil and Strickland, and in third, Smith and lockyer. Race two was won by Berezin and Mceweb, followed by Thompson and Wood-Westenburg in second and Corbeil and Strickland in third.

Thompson and Wood-Westenburg continued on to win race three and race four, putting them in a tie breaker with Berezin and Mceweb. Thompson and Wood-Westenburg won the tie breaker, putting them in first overall, and Berezin and Mceweb in second overall. Vagners and Sheedy follow close behind in third.

Racing continues tomorrow with the first start at 1100. Tomorrow is the final day of Fall Cork, with the award ceremonies will be held at Portsmouth Olympic Harbour at 1700 or after racing.
