2012 Sail Canada Rolex Sailor of the Year announced

The 2012 Sail Canada Rolex Sailor of the Year Awards took place Saturday Night at The Carlu in Toronto and was enjoyed by all that attended.

Sail Canada is proud to announce Oskar Johannson as the 2012 Rolex Sailor of the Year!

Oskar was in attendance to receive the award with a very proud group of friends and family. Highlights of the night included a cocktail reception, dinner and entertainment afterwards at the beautiful Carlu. Annual awards were also proudly distributed to youth and senior sailors at all levels across the Canadian Sailing spectrum including The Bill Burk Youth Elite Memorial Award, William Abbott Sr. Trophy - Sail Training Program of the Year Award, City of Kingston Regatta of the Year Award, Volunteer of the Year Award, Male and Female Athlete of the Year awards and several others.

I caught up with Dick Neville, Race Committee chair for the Quantum Key West Race Week, to learn more about the event. For the past 30 years, international sailors have gathered in Key West, Florida, each January for Key West Race Week, a regatta that has achieved legendary status due to its calendar dates, its location, and the impressive level of competition and racecourse management that this storied event offers.
